How can I change the availability period of my transfer?

Everything you need to know to manage the availability period of your transfers.

When sending your files, one of the most important settings to configure is the availability period of the transfers that will contain those files. Once your transfer has been created, you will not be able to modify this setting. Your recipients will have this — always limited — period of time to download your files.

Note: the availability period of a transfer cannot be extended. Once a transfer has expired, it cannot be reactivated.

When the availability period ends, the files are permanently deleted from our servers, for security reasons.

Default transfer availability period

By default, if you don’t change anything, transfers will be available for 7 days, both on the free version and the paid version of Smash.

Maximum transfer availability period

With the free version, you can enjoy a maximum availability of 14 days.
If you’re a subscriber, your transfers can remain available for up to 30 days.

Changing the default availability period

You’re free to adjust the default availability period of your transfer, either to benefit from the maximum duration or, on the contrary, to limit access to your files with a shorter duration (1 day, for example).

Changing the period in the transfer settings

This change is made through the transfer settings, especially if you use the free version.

  • After selecting your files, click the “gear” icon at the bottom left of the interface.

  • In the “Transfer settings” section, under the “expiration” line, enter the duration of your choice, from 1 to a maximum of 14 or 30 days.

The selected duration will not be saved for future transfers, so you will need to configure it again each time.

Changing the period in the account settings

If you have a Smash subscription, you can also modify the default duration directly from your account settings.

  • Once logged into your account, go to the Settings tab.

  • Select Send mode.

  • Open the “Default transfer settings” section, then the line "Set up the default value for the validity period of a transfer"

  • Enter the duration of your choice, from 1 to 30 days.

This duration will apply to all your future transfers.
