A self-promotion, also named promotional pop-in, is a message you can display during the upload or download of your files. It’s not just a way to keep users patient — it’s also a great communication opportunity. There’s far more potential in a self-promotion than you might imagine.

If you have Smash paid version, you can create one directly from your account in the "Self-Promotion" tab.

Two key moments to display a self-promotion

  • When the sender uploads files before sending

  • When the recipient downloads files after receiving them

Both cases are useful to highlight your brand, your news and share informations with your recipients.

A self-promotion combines several elements:

  • an introductory text

  • an image or a YouTube/Vimeo video

  • a description

  • a call-to-action button

  • a link for the button

Write a few lines, add your visual, and within minutes your message is ready to be shown to senders or recipients.

Visual content should take priority — images or videos are the most effective way to capture attention. Keep both the introduction and description short and simple to ensure instant understanding.

As for the call-to-action button: this is where you guide your audience toward the next step. Some examples include:

  • “Like” to drive engagement on a social media post

  • “Learn more” to share additional information on your website

  • “Discover,” “Watch,” and many more

If people click, your self-promotion has done its job!

These promotional pop-ins are a great opportunity to highlight your latest news, showcase your expertise, or share your company values. Use them to speak directly to your audience, right from their screen.

Examples of self-promotions

The possibilities are endless — let your creativity and imagination flow!
You could feature:

  • a self-promotion highlighting your latest video production

  • a message announcing a new product launch

  • a teaser for a new project

The more personalized, original, and consistent the design and message, the stronger the impact. You might even surprise your recipients — all through a simple file transfer.

Now it’s your turn!
